Mat Pilates



There are two types of Pilates offered at Active Mind Body Study in Caringbah: Mat or Reformer Pilates. The methodology is very different however the principle behind both of them is the same. Reformer is practiced on a specialised machine and should be done under the supervision of trained Reformer instructors.

Pilates is a highly efficient and effective practice to improve physical performance by correcting muscle imbalances which tend to cause pain and bodily dysfunction. By regularly strengthening your deep postural muscles and increasing your flexibility through Pilates, you will better support your joints and overall well-being.

Our philosophy is to combine the powerful traditional aspects of the Pilates Method, with modern day posture and lifestyle. For this reason, our two different classes combine Pilates with functional movement and balance, which helps to focus on an individual’s strength and weight bearing techniques. The classes have been designed to accommodate injury prevention. We believe Pilates is best practised in smaller group sizes to ensure the overall experience is maximised for each individual. You will receive personal attention and guidance throughout our Pilates classes whilst participating in the dynamic energy of a group setting. 

Mat Pilates is usually what most people are familiar with; it is based on slow and mindful exercises that require having control over your breathing. This type of Pilates can vary in levels, however, it tends to be an easier option for most people. It is performed on the floor using an exercise or yoga mat and employs controlled breathing during body weight resisted movement to build core strength.

Technique Reformer 

Whether you are an existing member or new and your ready to learn the fundamentals, you will only benefit from this class. In this class we strip it down and take it back to basics, teaching you how to correctly activate, position and work your body using optimal form for the best workout and ultimate results. Don’t be deceived though this class will require a lot of power, control and mobility.  Please be aware all new clients MUST attend Technique Reformer as their first class.  It is Pre Natal recommended.

Free Style Reformer

This class incorporates and combines the best of everything. With the Jump Boards, hand weights and other equipment this class involves toning, endurance, strength and cardio to challenge your limits, mix up your workouts and keep you guessing what’s next, it will leave you wanting more. It is NOT recommended for Pre Natal or anyone with injuries not cleared by a medical professional.

Pilates Core

This 40-minute mat class is about, effective core training. You will be targeting and training the Transversus Abdominis and Pelvic Floor. The Transversus Abdominus is the deepest yet most important layer of stomach muscle, its role is to flatten the abdominal wall and also to stabilise the spine as it’s the only stomach muscle to actually attach onto each of the lower vertebrae. Strengthening this muscle helps to reduce back pain and decrease the risk of injuring the lower back.

Pilates Sculpting

This 40-minute class is perfect for those who are ready to take their training to the next level. With a combination of movements involving our new “Activ Straps”, Bosu Balls, your body weight and hand weights this is the ultimate Pilates Sculpting workout. We’ll work you hard and you’ll leave in a sweat but you’ll feel lengthened, stronger, more toned; and craving more!

Pilates Stretch

This 40-minute mat class is a combination of core work, stretch and foam rolling. It is a great way to release all the tension we build of through the week and re-set our bodies. The class will leave you feeling lengthened, strengthened and rejuvenated. Stretch Pilates is based on stretching and breathing techniques with the use of equipment such as therabands, circles and foam rollers
