SPECIFIC PILATES EXERCISES ON A MAT
There are two types of Pilates offered at Active Mind Body Study in Caringbah: Mat Pilates or Reformer. The methodology is very different however the principle behind both of them is the same. Reformer is practiced on a specialised machine and should be done under the supervision of trained Reformer instructors.
As a result Mat Pilates is usually what most people are familiar with; it is based on slow and mindful exercises that require having control over your breathing. This type of Pilates can vary in levels, however, it tends to be an easier option for most people. It is performed on the floor using an exercise or yoga mat and employs controlled breathing during body weight resisted movement to build core strength. Exercises can also involve basic Pilates equipment such as dumbbells, balls, elastic resistance bands and exercise rings.
Focus is placed on precise movements originating from the center or core of your body. You’ll be working from the deepest layers of muscles which stabilise and support your spine pelvis, resulting in a strong, flexible spine with ideal posture and alignment. Classes emphasise the foundational principals of Pilates while offering modifications and variations to suit each client’s individual needs.
